Brielle, New Jersey
I understand it is now private offices; could someone confirm?
Hines: 8 Miles S. of Asbury Park. Open April to Oct. 11:30am to 9pm Closed Tuesdays. Try a sea food special "deviled crab cakes" or on Sunday a half roast stuffed chicken.
Another restaurant whose history was nearly lost to time. Once again I am grateful that Google's Book archive features the Historical New Jersey Series. Not only is there the sole photo I was able to locate online but also this humorous caption regarding the "staff"...
"The Bite Shop was another well-known Brielle eatery located on Higgins Avenue across from Eloise's Café today. The owner Eva C. Bissett had a very talkative parrot that was popular with the diners. The restaurant closed in the early 1960s and was remodeled into a real estate office. Currently this site houses professional offices."I discovered mention of the establishment in young lady's journal from 1938 Luella Forman of Jamesburg provides a great view into the life of folks who had a lot of time on their hands. She mentions having supper at The Bite Shop in the area of Point Pleasant with friends on July 24th.
